WORKSHOP ON ETABS

Dear All,

It is to inform you that Department of Civil Engineering is organizing a Software Workshop for the M.Tech (Structural Engineering) students, both 1st year and Final Year and faculties on 15th September 2018, from 1-4 PM at Room No- 105 Block 3. 


The objective of the workshop is to introduce students to the various software's that are currently being used in the design industry and also learn the application of the software on a civil engineering problem. The workshop will be held once/twice a month on every working Saturday, the schedule of which will be shared soon.


The speaker for tomorrow's event will be Col. Vivek Shankar Mathur who will be introducing ETABS software to the students.


Interested students are required to come along their laptops with ETABS installed in the system.

Test pattern for TCS

TCS National Qualifier test is going to be a 90 min test. Below is a detailed test Pattern.

The biggest change in TCS pattern this year is that, the email writing is replaced by English section, which is going to have Fill in the blanks questions. 

How can students practice for this test?
To give students an experience of what the actual TCS National qualifier test would look like, TCS has released a Mock test.
Based on what we have seen from TCS Digital & previous TCS exams, taking this mock test comes in very handy not only in understanding the test pattern, but also the questions are found to be very similar.

NOTICE- REGISTRATION

Here is the List of eligible students (all years) for registration

 

 Requirements for registration:

  1. Registration form duly filled

  2. Print out of two anti ragging form.

  3. Fees receipt, if dues is not cleared beforehand or is not reflected in their Peoplesoft.

  4. Anybody having pending dues will not be allowed for registration. In case of pending dues, if permission to register provisionally is granted by Registrar, S.U, then only Registration on People Soft will be done.  (check your peoplesoft ID for that)

  Here is the list of Pending Documents:-  The Registration may be done after submission of pending documents. In case of pending documents, if permission to Register Provisionally is granted by Dean SET, then Provisional Registration will be done.

The practical examination of summer term-2018 will be held on 20th July, 2018 (Friday)

Here is the list of students.

Timings- 9:30 am -12:30 pm and 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Reporting time for the students: 9:30 am in the department.

Those who have examination should report a day earlier (with their admit card) for the timings in the department.  

The students are required to prepare their practical files and reports which ever is applicable for your lab. and  bring it on that day.

Review of Work and Energy Principles, Maxwell-Betti’s and Castiglano’s Theorem,
Principle of Virtual Work, Degrees of Freedom, Static and Kinematic Indeterminacy.

Unit 2: Stiffness Method and Flexibility Method
Stiffness Method, Analysis of Pin Jointed Frames (temperature effect, lack of fit),
Rigid jointed frames and grids, continuous beams (settlement of Supports), Direct
Stiffness Approach, Stiffness Matrix Assembly, Incorporation of Boundary Element
Solutions, Gauss Elimination, Matrix Inversion, Element Flexibility Matrix, Truss
Element, Beam Element, Force Transformation Matrix.

Assignment 1: (Last date of submission is 6th july'18)
Q.1  Calculate the reaction at B from the flexibility method of analysis.
     Q.2  Develop the stiffness matrix for the beam AB shown in fig. with reference to the coordinates given.

               
 
Q.3 The beam AB as shown in fig. is fixed at both the ends and is subjected to a concentrated load P and a couple M at the midpoint. It is assumed that the beam has constant flexural rigidity EI. Calculate the values of redundants Q1 and Q2 by the flexibility method.
